Great insight, Steve. You get it. Many are taught that their warm market comprised of family and friends are in fact a qualified market of prospects. I would argue that although warm, they are definitely not qualified...making them more comparable to a cold market instead. They have to be wooed just as much, or even more than, a perfect stranger in a cold market.

Great article! I don't believe it is possible to recruit anyone from a cold market. All a cold market demographic is useful for is converting someone from a suspect (a nobody initially) into a prospect. Even gaining their subscription on a double-opt-in mailing list doesn't qualify them for prospect status. They're still just a suspect - a tire kicker. Once they BEHAVE IN A CERTAIN WAY (as Wallace Wattles is so fond of saying), their status escalates to the prospect level, and VOILA! We have a new addition to our WML - warm market list. From which we ALWAYS recruit.

To the most excellent list of methods mentioned in your article, I would add:

- video marketing
- forum marketing
- blogging (arguably the easiest tool for reputation development)
- viral tool adoption (if not creative, find a re-brander and deploy!)
