The City Slicker’s Rant to Network Marketing

Welcome back. Have you signed up for Adam's Free Training Newsletter? You should do that now.

Network Marketing in a metropolitan area, though not impossible, can be extremely difficult.

Take NYC for example:busysidewalk

If you’ve ever walked the streets of NY, you know there’s a constant bombardment of offers thrown in your face all day every day.
You’ve heard the phrase, “Time is money,” which happens to be the unofficial anthem in this city. But time is also energy. And in NY, if you don’t have walls up to protect yourself, your head could literally “Pop!”… I’m serious.

It’s not that NY’ers are rude because they’re not…. well, most of them anyway.  They’ve just developed near impenetrable defenses to shield themselves from the whirlwind of activity that envelops them every day. Call it a survival technique.

Point is…People don’t have any extra energy, or time, to waste on crap (Definition of Crap in this case: Anything they are not actively looking for; …Yes, this means your “Opportunity”… sorry). So NY’ers are notorious for sizing up a person in a second and immediately making a decision to whether this person warrants their precious time and energy. They’ll internally (and many times vocally) give you a “yes”, “no”, or “get the (bleep) out of my way” answer faster than you can blink.

Suffice to say, this makes it very difficult to approach people about your opportunity.

Now let’s say you do get through to someone (It’s happened).

You’re immediately faced with the overwhelming challenge of getting this new prospect to your opportunity meeting when…
… they know it will take an hour to hop the Q to travel less than a mile,
… or they’re faced with a $50/hour parking garage fee,

and what they really want to do is…

… spend the little down time they have by taking solace in their shoebox size apartment away from all the craziness that is the city
… or go to their local pub and drink a $7 beer, and watch the Giants game with friends (probably more accurate),.

Let’s face it. That kind of competition deters me, too!

And let’s talk meeting space. If you can find one, is it really worth paying $400 a month to use a small meeting room for an 1hr a week just to have 1 or 2 prospects (on a great day) show up? Not in my book.

(takes a deep breath)

So how do you run a network marketing business in a city?

Well, I’ve found that using online methods to generate my own leads and earn advertising dollars at the same time works pretty well.

I now target my message to people who actually want to hear it (and that includes NY’ers). I’m not spending my precious time traveling around the city for appointments that may or may not show up (even after they confirmed), and I am able to build a trusting relationship with my prospects before I’ve even talked to them,

… All from the comfort of my shoebox size apartment.
